Below is an installation view of the first iteration of my Master of Fine Art (MFA) capstone project, “Possibilities”, as presented for my final group tutorial. The feedback I received from the MFA cohort concentrated on the photographic. opposed to the materiality of the artwork, such as:
indexical painterly gestures built up on the substrate surface as evidence of my labour time and embodiment of my intent and authorship in and as the artwork,
scaring and ripping in the hand-torn paper panels,
the subtle movement of each panel in response to the surrounding environment of the presentation space,
the naturally occurring curls of the draping sections, and
the harsh shadows cast by the gallery lighting between the artwork and the installation's adjacent wall space.
